1. GENERAL INFORMATION ON COOKIES

Cookies are generally text strings that websites (so-called publishers or "first party") visited by the user or different sites or web servers (so-called "third parties") place and store – directly, in the case of publishers, and indirectly, i.e. through the latter, in the case of "third parties" – within a terminal device available to the user. Cookies are stored by the individual browser on the specific device used (personal computer, tablet, smartphone, or any other device capable of storing information).

The software used to browse the Internet and the operation of these devices, such as browsers, can store cookies and then transmit them again to the sites that generated them on the occasion of a subsequent visit by the same user, thus retaining memory of their previous interaction with one or more websites.

The information encoded in cookies may include personal data, such as an IP address, a username, a unique identifier or an e-mail address, but may also contain non-personal data, such as language settings or information about the type of device a person is using to browse the website.

Cookies can therefore perform important and varied functions including session monitoring, storing information on specific configurations for users accessing the server, facilitating the enjoyment of online content, etc. They may, for example, be used to keep track of items in an online shopping cart or information used to fill in a computer form. Through cookies it is possible to allow web pages to load more quickly, as well as to route information over a network - in line therefore with requirements strictly related to the operation of websites themselves - just as through cookies it is also possible to deliver behavioural advertising and measure the effectiveness of the advertising message, or to adapt the type and manner of services provided to the behaviours of the user previously observed.

1.1. TYPES OF COOKIES

Cookies may have different characteristics in terms of time and therefore be considered based on their duration (session or permanent), or from a subjective point of view (depending on whether the publisher acts independently or on behalf of the "third party"). Session cookies are temporarily stored in the device's memory while browsing the Website (for example, to keep track of the chosen language) and are deleted as soon as the user closes the browser. Permanent cookies save a file on the device for a certain period of time. Permanent cookies allow the Website to remember information and settings on subsequent user visits, thus making browsing faster and more convenient. On the expiry date, the cookie is automatically deleted.

However, the classification that primarily meets the user's protection needs is the one based on two macro categories: technical cookies, profiling cookies and analytical cookies.

2. RETENTION PERIOD

Personal data processed through cookies are retained for the period established by the site (first party or third party) that installs them (see section 1.1 A, B and C) or, in the case of profiling cookies or cookies similar thereto, until the withdrawal of the consent given by the user for such purposes.

In any case, the user may decide at any time to limit or block cookies through the browser settings as described in point 1.1.A of this Cookie policy.

3. WHERE THE INFORMATION COLLECTED THROUGH COOKIES IS PROCESSED

The information collected through cookies is processed mainly within the European Economic Area (EEA). However, certain third-party cookies may involve a transfer of the related information outside the EEA, in particular to the United States. In such cases, the Joint Controllers have adopted supplementary technical and organisational measures to ensure the security of any personal data transmitted with the information collected by cookies, favouring where possible their anonymisation. In any case, any transfer is carried out in compliance with Chapter V of the Regulation on the protection of personal data (EU) 2016/679 ("GDPR"), for example because there is an adequacy decision by the European Commission pursuant to Art. 45 of the GDPR or because the transfer takes place on the basis of appropriate safeguards pursuant to Art. 46 of the GDPR.

4. COOKIE MANAGEMENT

When the user visits the Website for the first time, a banner is displayed to inform them that the Website may use profiling, analytical or third-party cookies as described in this document, only if explicitly approved by the user. If the banner is closed by the user without changing the cookie settings, the site will only use technical cookies. The banner contains a link to this Cookie policy through which the user can find more information about the management of cookies used by the Website. The banner will not be shown again on screen on subsequent visits to the Website. At any time, the user can modify the consent expressed through the "Cookie Settings" section in the Website footer.

In any case and at any time, the user can limit or block cookies through the browser settings. These settings can usually be found in the "options" or "preferences" menu of the user's browser. If the use of technical cookies is blocked, the Joint Controllers can no longer guarantee the proper functioning of the Website and some features may be unavailable, thereby affecting the user experience of the Website.

The Website also incorporates plugins and/or buttons for social networks, in order to allow easy sharing of content on the user's preferred social networks. Such plugins are programmed so as not to set any cookies upon accessing the page, to safeguard the user's privacy. Cookies may be set, if provided for by the social networks, only where the user makes effective and voluntary use of the plugin. If the user uses the social network by authenticating with their authentication credentials, they have already made, at the time of registration, their choices regarding the use of cookies.
